Death Perception
This is my layout entry for the third round of Kuusou's Graphics Tournament with the theme of life and/or death. First of all, I haven't designed and coded a layout for months! So I'm a little rusty with my coding...
When I thought of the theme 'life and death', the closest anime I could think of that would fit perfectly was Kara no Kyoukai. It's actually a movie series (the 7th and final movie is coming soon!) and is one of my favorites not only because of the amazing animation and fight scenes, but also for the deep and contemplating messages in the story. It really makes you think. Though it's not something you'd watch when your expecting rainbow ponies and butterflies.
My fave of the series is the 1st movie, Overlooking View, and all the images in the layout were screencapped from it. Ryougi Shiki, the main character (with the knife and glowing eyes), has a power called Mystic Eyes of Death Perception (I got the title there... lame, I know) where she can see the lines of mortality connecting everything in existence. So she can cut an object's existence by slicing it at its 'death lines' (picture below knife on header.) That's when her eyes glow really cool! (Check icon used.) Spoilers: In the 1st movie, there is a bedridden girl named Fujyou Kirie who suffers an incurable disease ever since she was young, and she has been in the hospital for as long as she could remember. Then 'someone' gave her a 'second container' aside from the one she had so she could achieve 'double existence.' Her other self was a ghostly form that would induce high school girls to jump off high buildings to their deaths, so she would have ghostly companions. But when Shiki killed her ghost form, her human form awakened from 'sleep'.
Then her line: "The flash I felt when I was pierced in the heart... The overwhelming torrent of death and the beat of life."
That very moment when she was 'killed,' was the very moment that she felt most alive. It's very contradictory but it's true if you think about it though. She wanted to feel that moment again so she... (let's put it this way: she didn't fly.)
About layout
Now onto the layout! The brush for that 'shattered glass' effect was too thick, so I made it to look like 'death lines' with a picture on every crack. It sort of narrates the story a bit, and it's like how your whole life story flashes before your eyes before you die. Then beside that is the scene when Fujyou's ghost form was killed by Shiki. (The highlight of the whole life/death concept) Then beside that is Shiki's infamous knife and the death lines that she can see with her eyes.The navigation is inserted within the header and has a inclined effect with sample links. Then the skull background pattern repeats on top and on the right side going down, with a central footer below plus credits.
How to Use
Download the zip file to your computer and extract it. Edit index.html replacing all links in the navigation and all your content when indicated. Upload everything to your host, along with the '/images/' directory. And PLEASE don't remove the credits! Thank you!Extras
